The Xun (埙,塤 ).

                 

   By the end of october , one of my students , David, (member of the Chinese Culture Association) took to class a musical instrument called  xun (埙,塤,xūn). According to David, this  flute-like Chinese musical instrument is the oldest known musical instrument .His Xun is very special since he bought it when he went to see the mausoleum of emperor Qin Shi Huang (秦始皇, pinyin: Qín Shǐhuáng,  ), near Xi'an.

 This instrument has the form of an egg with a flattened bottom, and it has six finger holes—three on both sides , on the front and  you need to  blow across a hole at the top of the instrument if you want to play it.

This instrument dates back around 5000 BC.The xun was often played in combination with  the chi (an ancient bamboo transverse flute)  the Confucian Shijing (“Classic of Poetry”) says, “The older brother played the xun and the younger brother played the chi.”  to mean brotherhood or  harmony.

The xun usually functioned as a member of the ritual orchestra; it represented the earth group in the bayin (“eight sounds”) classification.

A finales de octubre, uno de mis estudiantes, David,  (miembrod e la Asociación de Cultura China) llevó a nuestra clase un instrumento musical llamado  xun (埙,塤,xūn). Según David,  este instrumento musical parecido a una flauta es el instrumento musical más antiguo. Su Xun es muy especial ya que lo compró cuando fué al Mausoleo del emperador  Qin Shi Huang (秦始皇, pinyin: Qín Shǐhuáng,  ), cerca de  Xi'an.ugar donde se encuentran los guerreros de Terracota.

 Este instrumento parece un huevo pero con la parte inferior plana y tiene 6 agujeros para los dedos - 3 de cada lado,al frente   y el agujero en la parte superior es por donde se sopla.

Este instrumento data de alrededor del  año  5000 A de C.

A menudo, el  xun se tocaba junto con el  chi (una flauta transversa de bamboo también muy antigua)  Shijing  (“poesía clásica de Confucio”) dice , “ El hermano mayor tocaba el  xun y el hermano menor tocaba el  chi.”  para significar hermandad o harmonía.

El Xun generalmente formaba parte de la orquesta Ritual , representando al grupo de la tierra en la clasificación   bayin (“ocho sonidos”) .
