My student María, a professor at CQUST, and who is also Alba´s friend invited us to her home so that we could try for the first time a traditional Chongqing Dish called HotPot or "food of steam boat"
The Chinese name for this dish is huoguo ( 火鍋, pinyin:huǒguō). huǒ means "fire" y guō "pot". Another name for it is da ben lu (打邊爐) "hitting the side of the pot". Hot Pot is very varied since it may contain basically anything!!! meat, vegetables, mushrooms, wontons,quail eggs , dumplings , fish or shrimps cooked in a boiling spicy hot broth at the center of the table.
Mi alumna, la maestra María , quien es amiga de Alba, nos invitó a su casa para que por primera vez probáramos el platillo tradicional por excelencia en Chongqing. llamado Hot pot o "comida de Barco de Vapor". En chino el nombre de este platilo es huoguo (chino tradicional: 火鍋, chino simplificado: 火锅, pinyin:huǒguō). huǒ significa "fuego" y guō se refiere a "cacerola". Otro nombre para este platillo es da ben lu (打邊爐) o "golpeando en el lado de la cacerola". El hot pot es muy variado ya que puede tener carne, verduras, hongos, wontons, huevo de codorniz, dumplings , pescado y o mariscos que se cocinan en un caldo hirviendo ubicado en el centro de una mesa.
Maria´s friend told us that Chinese usually gather around the Hot Pot to talk, dri nk bear, play games or tell stories so the convivence may last for hours...one of the things I discovered and now like a lot is Lotus Root,..
