BAMBOO TEMPLE BACK IN KUNMING

Qiongzhu Temple, or Bamboo Temple (Chinese: 筇竹寺; pinyin: Qióngzhú Sì), is a Buddhist temple situated on Yu'an Mountain (Chinese: 玉案山; pinyin: Yùàn Shān) to the northwest of Kunming, Yunnan, China.  

The first thing I wondered when we arrived at the temple why the reason why it got that name,since it is NOT made of bamboo.Later on, I found this interesting information: 
 The name of the temple (Qiongzhu) refers to a specific type of bamboo (genus Qiongzhuea), and there is a legend that links this type of bamboo to the temple.

THE LEGEND ABOUT ITS ORIGINS: 
During the Tang Dynasty (618-907), Yunnan was a separate country called Dali. One day, while two brothers of royal lineage were hunting in the hills outside Kunming, they spotted a bizarre rhinoceros. With hopes of capturing it, they followed the rhinoceros deep into the woods of Yu'an Mountain where the magical animal suddenly disappeared. Just as they lost sight of the rhinoceros, the brothers saw a group of monks who were unlike any monks they had seen before. When the monks saw the brothers, they vanished in clouds leaving only their walking sticks planted in the ground. By the following day, these walking sticks had become an entire bamboo forest. The amazed brothers knew that they had met enlightened, supernatural beings and, in order to honor them, they built Bamboo Temple in the forest of bamboo.

El templo de bambú es un templo Budista situado en la montaña Yuán a 12 km de Kunming. 

 Lo primero que me pregunté cuando llegamos fué el porqué del nombre pues el templo no estaba hecho de bambú. Después supe la razón por la cual dicho templo tiene tal nombre. esta es la información que resultó muy interesante: 

El nombre del templo (Qiongzhu) es el nombre de un tipo específico de bambú  (del género Qiongzhuea), y este una leyenda que conecta a este tipo de bambú con el templo. 

La leyenda cuenta que en los tiempos de la dinastía Tang  (618-907), Yunnan era un condado independiente llamado Dali. Un día, mientras  dos hermanos de linaje real  estaban de caza en las montañas de las afueras de Kunming, vieron un extraño rinoceronte. Con la esperanza de capturarlo, lo persiguieron hasta que entraron a los bosque de la montaña  Yu'an donde el animal mágicamente desapareció de repentes. Justo cuando perdieron de vista al rinoceronte, los hermanos  vieron a un grupo de monjes  que era poco probable que fueran monjes que ellos ya habían visto antes.Cuando los monjes vieron a los hermanos, se desaparecieron entre nubes, dejando solamente sus bastones plantados en el piso. Al día siguiente, estos bastones se habían convertido en un bosque de bambú . Los sorprendidos hermanos supieron entonces que habían encontrado a seres sobrenaturales iluminados y para honrarlos, ellos construyeron el Templo de Bambú  en el bosque de bambú .
